True Independence – it is…

There must have been congratulations on the Independence Day. But these days, you will see dozens of such congratulations. Creative and one-size-fits-all, from officials and politicians, on the Internet and on TV. Everything along the traditional lines: “We got it” and “We achieved it”.

But what does the word “Independence” really mean for us, residents of Sumy region?

Is it possible for a resident of Hlukhiv, Konotop, Yampol and other cities and villages of our native land to say: “Me and my country are independent!”?

Independent from other states and external administration? From humiliating charges? From private corporations that pull the subsoil out of Sumy region just by “paying” bribes to the center? From corruption in high offices?  Even from milk buyers , who shamelessly speculate on prices? Probably not. Do you know why?

Because history does not pity those who do not know what to do with “gained Independence”.

Because independence is not a goal! Independence is a tool!

The tool upon which the quality of life of every person in our country, in our native land depend!

From what he is fed in kindergarten, how he is morally brought up at school, whether he can get a higher education, how he is treated, what water he drinks, what roads he drives, where he can go to spend time with his family, how he is protected, and what they can give to his children, to his future.

This is independence from external management, the ability to make our own decisions and be responsible for the results.

This is what Independence looks like! That’s what real patriotism is! And not boilerplate congratulations, shouts, slogans and watchwords! What can make a difference? People’s choice. The autumn local elections are not a story about servants or oligarchs, this is not a story about the authorities or oppositionists, not about the president or the Verkhovna Rada. No. This is a story about our native land and about the independence of its inhabitants. That Independence, under which people, and not an official from Kiev, determine what the life of their native land will be like tomorrow; under which people themselves will say who they want to entrust to develop our native land: blabbermouths or people of action.

To become independent. Genuinely. And to truly say such important words for everyone:

Happy Independence Day of Ukraine!
